Family papers, 1794-1976.

The collection concerns the family of Duncan Campbell. Papers include letters, wills and estate papers, account books, bills, receipts, and other financial papers, diaries, deeds, bonds, photographs, and memorabilia. Correspondence includes A.J. Akin to Duncan Campbell on local politics and roads, 1878-1883; courtship letters of Chester Hatfield to Harriet Louise Campbell written from the Naval Academy at Annapolis, describing his life as a "middie," 1852; letters to Harriet Louise Campbell from friends at the Amenia Seminary, 1852-1855; letters of Duncan Campbell to his parents while attending school in Canada, 1871, and at Riverview Military Academy in Poughkeepsie, 1874. Other subjects include investments, travel experiences, and family affairs. Also, legal papers and correspondence from estates where Archibald Campbell was executor, 1794-1844, including the affairs of Hebron Sheldon who was declared mentally unfit and treated at the Retreat for the Insane in Hartford, Conn. Other individuals and family names involved include Emma Ackerman, Thomas C. Campbell, Ada Campbell Simpson and her husband A.C. Bogert, and the Borden, Simpson, Collins, and Ferris families.
